Arkwright Alumna Awarded BEM

13 December 2019

In September 2019 I was awarded a British Empire Medal – it was such an honour to receive this prestigious award at only 19 years old and I still can’t quite believe it!

The medal itself represents the hard work someone has done for their community - mine being outreach work to students, introducing them to the world of STEM.

I was nominated by my amazing mentor Mrs Hopkinson, who has been a key part in my journey so far. She began mentoring me in Year 10 through the Teen Tech process and has really opened my eyes to a career in engineering, helping me reach out and form links with many influential people in the engineering industry.

I am so grateful to Mrs Hopkinson for nominating me for the British Empire Medal and will never be able to thank her enough!

Since completing my Arkwright Engineering Scholarship I have finished the first year of my degree studying Mechanical Engineering at Cardiff University and love every second of it! I still have an active role as a Teen Tech Gold Ambassador, giving advice to students competing in the process. I strongly believe that the Arkwright Engineering Scholarship is a springboard into opportunities surrounding STEM.

I have taken so much from my Arkwright Engineering Scholarship and would highly recommend it to any student looking for first hand experience in a working environment, unique talks from universities across the globe and to be connected with other young aspiring engineers your own age!
