Scholar Presents National Award
31 January 2017
Arkwright Scholar Lauren Shea of Alton Convent School is already proving to be an outstanding future leader of the engineering profession. She was part of her school team which achieved national success in the TeenTech Awards with a project developed with industry professionals to refine and develop a GPS-enabled military medical shuttle. It was this initial inspiration that prompted Lauren to apply for an Arkwright Scholarship. Soon after this, with her teammate Lucy, Lauren won the 2016 BBC Radio 1 Teen Hero Awards, just before being appointed as an Arkwright Engineering Scholar! Lauren’s Arkwright Scholarship is sponsored by Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd.
But, last week, to top it all, Lauren and Lucy were invited to present the Employer of the Year Award at the Women in IT 2017 event at Grosvenor House, London.
As well as her own education and career, Lauren spends time inspiring students in the UK and internationally about STEM careers as a TeenTech Ambassador. Lauren is definitely one to watch for the future!
