Scholar secures IMechE Undergraduate Scholarship

6 January 2017

Scholar Liam Bushrod, who completed his Arkwright Engineering Scholarship and his A levels in summer 2016, was recently successful in his application for an Undergraduate Scholarship offered by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Liam applied for his Arkwright Engineering Scholarship when studying at Testwood School, Totton (he was the school's first ever Arkwright Scholar) before moving to Peter Symonds College, Winchester for his A levels. Liam is now studying General Engineering at Durham University. His Arkwright Engineering Scholarship was sponsored by Foster Wheeler (now Amec Foster Wheeler) where he benefitted from work experience.

Liam secured one of the ten IMechE Scholarships after a gruelling interview in London against stiff competition from other applicants. Liam said: "It was a stressful experience, but the Arkwright selection interview a couple of years ago definitely helped me prepare for it! The work experience provided by Foster Wheeler also gave me an edge with my 'real world' knowledge of engineering.

Mum and I then had a wonderful day in London for the IMechE ceremony and the Undergraduate Scholarship is already opening up new opportunities including potential placements next summer."

Well done to Liam!
